Article mentioning FC Tokyo and Chelsea agreeing a transfer for Muto:
I say BULLSHIT.
There are no
sources or statements from either club in the article.
The word “情報筋” (information channel) is used, but the ambiguity in the word doesn’t give this rumor any credibility. Since when did rumors have credibility any way?
Other than the fact of lack of facts, I don’t see have Muto would fit in Chelsea’s squad.
In a 4-2-3-1 formation, Chelsea have Willian and Eden Hazard starting in the wing positions. Chelsea also has Mohamed Salah, currently on-loan at Fiorentina. Muto will get a rotation role at most, which is not ideal for his development.
In my opinion, Muto would be better off going to a team like PSV Eindhoven. PSV has a number of players (Memphis Depay, Georginio Wijnaldum, etc.) who are possibly on the radars of larger European clubs. Manchester United are reported to be interested in Memphis Depay. Former Dutch National Team Manager Louis Van Gaal knows Memphis well after working together on the national team level. Regarding Wijnaldum, Arsenal and Manchester United were said to be looking at making a transfer bid after Wijnaldum stated his availability.
If these two players make moves, Muto would be a nice fit the squad because they play a quick, technical style of soccer. PSV are also currently on the top of the Dutch Eredivisie table and look good to win the league, which will mean they gain automatic qualification to the group stage of the Champions League.
These are reasons why I believe the Muto transfer to Chelsea will not happen, but a transfer to PSV would be ideal.
